Promoting recreational bicycling in Lancaster County for all interested cyclists

Lancaster Covered Bridge Classic – registration now open!

Registration is now open for the Lancaster Covered Bridge Classic. The Covered Bridge Metric Century has been renamed the Lancaster Covered Bridge Classic to reflect the changes in the ride distances. This year we are introducing a 100-mile route option in addition to the 62, 31, and 15 mile options. There is also an option to ride with a ride leader for the 15-mile route. The ride will be held Sunday, August 20. Register here.

We have also partnered with two other area rides to create the Bicycle Trifecta! Challenge yourself to complete all three this season. More details here.

Calling all volunteers: Volunteer to help the club with the best ride on the east coast. We can not do this without you. You will find a variety of tasks one or more of which will suit your talents. To signup please go to

Tour de Red Rose

Sat July 1 – Sun July 23, 2017 (20 days of riding!)

Fun, friends, fitness, and fabulous prizes too!

We welcome new members who sign up to participate in this event!!

For the 11th year in a row, club members will have a chance to celebrate the Tour de France, Lancaster style!  We’ll be pushing pedals together as we set new goals, improve our fitness, become better cyclists, and meet new friends. PLUS – there are fabulous prizes — BUT, you have to earn them!!

There will be two distance options for weekend rides  During the week, there will be one ride (or a choice of rides on hill days), starting from various locations around Lancaster County.   New this year, there will be a Time Trial option each week.  Again this year, the weekday rides will also have a morning 8:00AM ride available. All rides, weekend and weekday, will be posted on MeetUp and also mirrored on the website.

TdRR consists of the designated weekend club rides for the four weekends of July 1 thru July 23th inclusive (8 rides), plus the intervening designated weekday (Mon-Thur) Tour de Red Rose rides (12 rides). No other rides count, and no substitutions will be made! One ride per day (so you can’t ride in the morning and evening to earn two punches).

Registration is FREE for LBC members and there is the option for non-members to sign up for a fee ($30 includes 1 yr membership to LBC), but it will not be extended for any reason. Online registration is open. You must be signed by June 30 to participate.

Registrations beyond Friday June 30 will not be accepted. Ride cards MUST be picked up during the first week of riding, Saturday July 1 – Thursday July 6.

In order to get credit toward the prizes, you must have your card at the ride and be responsible for getting your sticker or punch for that day’s ride. This is a huge event organized and run by a very small group of people. They have a lot to do and keep track of. You have only two things to do:  1) show up   2) bring your card and get it stamped.

This years top prize is the jersey below. To earn this jersey you have to ride 19 or 20 rides. To learn about the other prizes go here.

Deadline:  Online by Friday June 30th

Details: You must abide by the Club’s code of Conduct.

Partial rides do not count. Designated TdRR rides must be completed from start to finish. No one said this event was easy – it’s not. Like most any organized event that provides awards, you earn those awards by FINISHING, not merely by starting. Honor system is in play. If you do not complete a specific ride, do NOT get your ride card punched prior to the next ride you do.

There are NO ride leaders for the weekday rides, ONLY sweeps.  The designated sweep(s for weekday rides will be at each ride start by 8:00 am and 6:00 pm with cue sheets (please download your own, if possible) and will be available to stamp cards. Sweeps will leave the ride start promptly by 8:15 am and 6:15 pm.

Inclement weather policy: For weekday rides, the TdRR Director & Committee will make every effort to make the weather call by 7:15 am for the morning ride and 5:15 pm for the evening ride. The call will be announced via Google Groups email and MeetUp. PLEASE be sure to subscribe to the Google Groups and check it regularly. If you RSVP on MeetUp, a cancelled ride will push notifications to all enabled communications: email/app badges).

If a single ride is cancelled, and you rode the ride immediately prior to the cancelled ride -OR- if you ride the immediately following ride, you can collect a sticker/punch for the cancelled ride. If multiple days in a row are cancelled, the criteria for earning the prizes may be reduced. The TdRR Director & Committee, depending on the circumstances, will decide this. Deciding at the time of the event prevents us from having to “what if” ourselves to death in advance.

Thank you,
Ken Juengling
2017 TdRR Director
